2008 Lone Star State Scholars Night @ the Ballpark

It's back! After rave reviews and a huge crowd for our first-ever Lone Star State Scholars Night at the ballpark, we are following through on our promise to continue the tradition and have another night this year. We heard so many kind notes and comments from people who traveled from all over the state to be part of this special event. We're happy to say, we're going to have another great event in 2008!

In an effort to provide you with a lot of value for your money, the Rangers and Lone Star State Scholars have teamed up with an incredible amount of events and special gifts. This includes, special ceremonies, special recognition during the game, free Rangers caps, free tickets to a future Rangers game – not to mention a Major League Baseball game that includes special ceremonies and fireworks!

Special PreGame Ceremony to Honor Scholars
Prior to the game at the Ballpark @ Arlington, Scholars will take part in a special ceremony in which the Scholars will be honored. We expect Rangers alumni to be on hand to speak and sign autographs for Scholars and their families only. Details for this event are still being finalized and will be updated on this web site in the near future.

Appear on the Big Screen Scoreboard
Four lucky Scholars will be selected to appear on the big screen scoreboard between innings to represent all Lone Star State Scholars as they are paid tribute to in front of the entire crowd attending the game.

Receive Free tickets to a future Rangers game
As a way of saying "Great Job Scholars" the Rangers will also provide you with a coupon to attend a future Rangers game – free of charge! These will be mailed with your ticket order. For every ticket you order, you receive a coupon for 2 free tickets. These tickets are for Lower Reserved Seats (a $25 value) and can be used for any Rangers game Sunday–Thursday. (For example, buy 4 tickets, receive coupons for 8 free tickets to a future game).

Special Event @ the Game includes Fireworks!
On August 16th, the Rangers will hold Legacy Weekend with special ceremonies on the field honoring Rangers alumni. New Rangers President Nolan Ryan will be on hand and other Rangers alumni come in for the game.

In addition, there will be a post-game Fireworks show to end the evening!

Seats
Lone Star State Scholars will sit in two different areas of the stadium so that you have a choice of seats for your enjoyment and family budget.

Option 1: Corner Box Seats. These are great box seats located in the lower level. Each seat is angled toward the pitchers mound. The corner box attracts a lot of foul balls -- so bring your glove! Cost: $33 per ticket

Option 2: Bleacher Seats. The bleachers are lower level seats located next to the Coca-Cola sports park. The bleachers are very family friendly and feature a children's concession stand (Captains Corral), and several activities and games including our waffle ball park. Cost: $16 per ticket.

GameDay T-Shirts Available
Again this year, you will have a chance to buy a special commemorative t-shirt for the event. The popular t-shirt will contain this year's completely new 2008 Design. (Pictures on this web site contain shirts from previous years). T-Shirts will be shipped prior to the game so participants may wear them to the game. Cost of the T-Shirt is $13.45.

Ticket Processing Fee: Your order will incur a $9 ticket processing fee that includes putting together your order and any shipping and handling regardless of how many tickets or shirts you may order. (This compares very favorably to ordering tickets online through Ticketmaster (where you would not be eligible to participate in the Scholars special events) and you would pay a $1.75 order processing fee plus a ticket fee of $4.00 (Corner box) or $3.75 (Bleacher) per ticket!)

Hotel Information

Lone Star State Scholars has secured a limited number of hotel rooms for Scholars coming in from out-of-town and a special discounted rate at the Crowne Plaza Suites Arlington. The room is perfect for families to stay in. Each room is a suite featuring one room with either a king bed or two doubles, and a pull-out full size sleeper sofa in the other room. There are two TVs in each room as well as a refrigerator and free wireless Internet. The hotel features the only indoor pool in Arlington and has two restaurants. You can choose to ride a complimentary (free) trolley that will pick you up and take you to the game. The hotel is located 2.5 miles from the ballpark. Lone Star State Scholars has received a discounted rate of $109 per night (regular $189). These rooms are available on a first-come, first served basis so make your reservations ASAP. To reserve, call the hotel at 817-394-5000 and ask for the Lone Star State Scholars rate.

Six Flags Over Texas Amusement Park Salutes Lone Star State Scholars
Last year, hundreds of people came in from out of town to stay at the hotel and make a special weekend by attending the Scholars event at the Ballpark and heading next door to Six Flags Over Texas Amusement Park. Thus, we've put together a great deal for you so you can receive a discount and a gift as part of Lone Star State Scholars

Regularly priced tickets at the park cost $50.75 (including tax). Through Lone Star State Scholars, you may purchase your tickets for a discounted price of $33.00. The tickets are good for any day – so those from the area may use these before or after our Lone Star State Scholar event.

As a special gift to celebrate the great work of Lone Star State Scholars, each ticket purchased will also receive a FREE Kodak voucher to have a 6x8 photo taken at the park. You can use these for family photos, photos with Bugs Bunny or other characters. You receive one voucher for each ticket you purchase (ie. Buy 4 tickets, receive 4 vouchers). It's a $12.99 value.

For the first time, Lone Star State Scholars teamed with the Texas Rangers to honor the current class of Lone Star State Scholars. What a night it turned out to be. Prior to the game, the Scholars met at Dr. Pepper Youth Ballpark where they paraded in to a rousing ovation from the packed house of parents, friends, and fans. There, they heard a motivating message from Ranger great Jim Sundberg. Another Ranger alumnus, George Wright, stayed until everyone had their autographs they wanted. Scholars and their families then headed to the Ballpark in Arlington where the Rangers had a great deal of pomp and circumstance occurring on their own. They honored Sammy Sosa for hitting 600 home runs and many celebrities were in attendance. In the fifth inning, three Scholars appeared on the scoreboard as all the Scholars were saluted by the Rangers’ PA announcer. Then, the Rangers won the exciting game! All in attendance with the Scholars also received a free Rangers baseball hat and tickets to a future Rangers’ game.
